If a member has any employment-related problems, the best way to get help in most cases is to turn to the local shop steward or the union office. To ensure the legal services of its members, the Union has made an agreement with Attorneys Eversheds Ltd (former Juridia Bützow Attorneys Ltd).
The union lawyer provides legal counselling in
employment related matters, and may refer members to Eversheds on a case‑by‑case
matters that are related to private affairs, the members can directly consult
the lawyers of Attorneys Eversheds Ltd (Mon - Fri 10 - 16):

Examples of matters that fall within the scope of private life affairs include:
- cases of inheritance, testament and apportionment;
- cases of family law, such as marriage settlements, divorce matters, partitions and alimony;
- matters of cohabiting couples such as dissolution of joint ownership;
- inheritance and gift taxation;
- rental and apartment house company matters, apartment transactions;
- matters pertaining to compensation for damages.
The telephone consultation covers matters that can be easily presented by the member and clarified by the lawyer over the phone without reference to any documents. This consultation service does not include the drawing up of documents.
Non-occupational accident and traveller's insurance
The Finnish Union for University Researchers and Teachers has taken non-occupational accident and traveller's insurance for its members from OP Insurance Ltd. According to the conditions of the accident insurance, the insured include all Union members under the age of 68 who reside in Finland, as prescribed in the Population Information Act (507/1993). Under the traveller’s insurance, the insured include all Union members under the age of 68 who are permanent residents in Finland and have a valid KELA (social insurance) card. The sphere of the accident and traveller's insurance excludes members that are under the age of 68 and receive old age, disability or unemployment pension. Those members, however, who are under the age of 68 and receive part-time pension or rehabilitation support or are temporarily unemployed are covered by the insurance. The insurance is valid to the end of the calendar year in which the member retires.
The accident insurance is valid during leisure or recreation. However, the insurance is valid all day for members who are not in an employment relationship (those working on grant funds) and are not carrying out any business activities for earnings.
The traveller’s insurance is valid for leisure travel abroad from Finland. However, the insurance is valid all day for members who are not in an employment relationship (those working on grant funds) and are not carrying out any business activities for earnings. Within Finland, the insurance is valid for leisure travels further than 50 kilometre from the home, workplace, study institution or holiday home of the insured. Any family members or grandchildren under the age of 15 who are travelling with the insured are also covered by the insurance. The insurance policy does not include baggage coverage. The insurance is valid for periods of travel lasting no longer than 3 months.
Liability and legal protection insurance
The Union has contracted with OP Insurance Ltd for a profession-related liability and legal expenses insurance. The insurance compensates, up to an annually adjustable euro amount, for attorney or court expenses that result from juridical cases and disputes arising within one’s employment relationship. The insurance includes a deductible.
The Union has contracted with OP Insurance Ltd for organisation insurance. The insurance provides coverage for members in their organisational duties and functions everywhere in the world. The activities covered by the insurance include, for example, the meetings of the union bodies, the meetings of the local associations, training courses and seminars. The organisation insurance includes travel insurance, which is comprised of a traveller’s insurance, baggage insurance, as well as liability and legal protection insurances.
According to the co-operation agreement with OP Insurance Ltd, individual members are entitled to receive discounts on the following insurances: Extrasure (Mittaturva) coverage for home and family, and voluntary motor vehicle insurance for a car, van, mobile home or camper van in private use.

Acatiimi is a magazine for members and interest groups of the Finnish Union of University Researchers and Teachers, the Finnish Union of University Professors and the Union for University Teachers and Researchers in Finland (YLL). The magazine is issued 8 times each year with a circulation of about 11,800.
